As a blogger it is almost my duty to know the best coffee shops in San Diego. I mean, lets be real I walk around with my phone and laptop attached to my hip and because I usually work from home, it’s nice to know some spots where I can get out and still get some work done. Plus lets be honest, a good coffee pic for instagram is always a good idea. Because it’s Saturday and we all love to sit in our pj’s with our own cup of joe, I thought why not round up the best coffee shops in San Diego for you all in case you are ever in the area!
James Coffee (located in Little Italy)
James Coffee is always on my list of best coffee shops! I come here a lot to get coffee and get work done and my favorite part about it is dogs are welcome so little merlot usually will make a trip there with me and just sleep while I work! It’s not your typical coffee shop which is actually really cool. The way I describe it is it resembles a garage/warehouse setting with a lot open space and a bunch of places to sit. There are shops within the coffee shop which is also pretty cool and it just has a different vibe to it. Word to the wise, make sure to set your alarm to go out and fill your parking meter, I have definitely gotten a parking ticket here after I forgot to go out and pay for a couple more hours! #LessonLearned
This is a trendy spot in North Park that most people know about. They have a ton of “coffee cocktails” and lots of yummy eats. Seating can be a little bit tricky so might be better to go on a day/time when most people area at work but definitely a place to check out!
Philz Coffee (located in Encinitas)
Just tried this spot with my photographer a couple weeks ago and we were in awe over their amazing coffee! We got the Mint Mojito Coffee (I bleieve it was) and it was beyond amazing! They focus on making the best drip coffee and I totally fell in love after visiting once! Here’s a shot of that delicious drink:
Home to the Best Drink Ever. No really, that’s its name. I can’t say I’ve really tried any other drinks because THAT drink takes the cake every. single. time. They have a few different locations but I have to say even though I don’t live in Encinitas, this location has got to be my favorite. This is another spot that is ALWAYS packed. The atmosphere is awesome, tons of places to sit, MANY people with their laptops getting work done or people just catching up! I love the decor, they have it decorated like I would want my home, I swear. And they also have the coolest to go cups for a cold beverage that reads “Life’s Better Buzzed.” So instagrammable, right?!
Copa Vida (Downtown San Diego)
Copa Vida has got to be one of the most popular coffee shops in Downtown San Diego. Every single time I go in here it is PACKED. I wouldn’t say their coffee is the best I’ve had BUT the location and inside is one of my favs. This is a larger coffee shop and has a spacious patio area as well. I have seen dogs here so I assume it is dog friendly but don’t quote me on that. I also have had lunch here many times and the food is pretty good although I’ve really only tried their salads. You will find a lot of business people here stopping by and a LOT of people with their laptops catching up on work. Also, they have amazing natural light!
Bean Bar is across from the Central Library and it is a relatively small yet cozy spot! They have floor to ceiling windows so there is tons of natural light (which I love). I usually go here when I need a little more of a quiet spot to work since it doesn’t tend to get CRAZY busy. Most people I feel will grab their coffee and go making it a great spot to get some work done (or people watch).
Herb & Eatery (located in Little Italy)
This is a relatively new spot I discovered and I love the vibe. It is attached to Herb and Wood restaurant- and they have opened just very recently. They sell beer, cheeses, and other “snacks” and gift items inside on the market section as well as many café items on the café section. Lots of seating and it doesn’t tend to get very packed which is really nice when you are looking for a more mellow spot!
I’ve only been to Lofty Coffee a couple times but I loved the atmosphere of this spot. There are two or three locations I believe but Solana Beach is my favorite! It has a super cute patio area to enjoy on a nice day and they focus a lot on their “farm-to-cup” philosophy.
This is another spot that has a few locations but I’ll admit their Leucadia spot is my favorite! It is huge, and has that rustic, beachy atmosphere that I think anyone wants when heading to coffee shop along the SoCal coast! Oh and they have TONS of yummy pastries!! So hard to resist, I swear!
Hope you guys enjoyed this little roundup of the best coffee shops in San Diego! Let me know if you ever try one of these spots, I’d love to hear your thoughts!! Now, time for another cup of coffee…
xoxo

Pannikin in La Jolla tends to be my favored Pannikin location. Have you been? It’s great for when you need an ocean breeze.
