One thing I know I am blessed about is that I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the country – San Diego! For those of you who don’t know, San Diego is known as America’s Finest City – and well, that’s not and exaggeration!
ok.. ok.. maybe I’m a little biased..
San diego is known for it’s beautiful and beyond amazing weather, fun attractions and most importantly, its miles and miles of gorgeous beaches. You can usually see this is most my photos as I’m usually shooting beachside because I love it that much! Because I do get asked a lot of questions about my city especially from some of my readers who are heading to SD for vacation I thought I would do a little bit different of a post and round up my top 5 beaches in San Diego!
So, lets get to it…
Anyone living in San Diego knows you can’t even begin a “top 5 beaches in San Diego” list without mentioning the beloved Coronado Beach. It is actually considered one of the top ten beaches in the U.S. and is exceptionally clean with wide stretches of sand. The northern end is dog-friendly while the main pair runs along Ocean Blvd south to the famous Hotel Del Coronado. It’s absolutely stunning, extremely romantic and probably one of my favorite beaches in SD!
Mission Beach offers two miles of amazing coastline and has something for everyone. It’s really known for having a fun beach as well as an awesome boardwalk where you can walk, skate or bike around (and of course, people watch!). You can also visit Belmont Park where you an ride the giant roller coaster as well and if you’re a volleyball person, there are lots of games going on always on the beach you can jump in or start your own! I mostly go to Mission Beach for the boardwalk aspect of this beach since I always love walking along the coast and grabbing something to eat with a view.
I have to say – La Jolla is probably where I spend most my time and is my most regular beach. In fact, TripAdvisor named La Jolla Cove the 6th best beach in the U.S. last year as well! So it was a no brainer listing it as one of my top 5 beaches in San Diego of course! La Jolla Cove is pretty much the iconic “photographed” beach and is a SoCal landmark, I’d say. It’s a perfect place to snorkel, dive or just relax. I will say however, a LOT of tourists end up at La Jolla Cove so if you’re looking to avoid this, it probably isn’t the best spot. With that being said, it’s seriously gorgeous. It has cliffside views and if you’re into seeing seals you will not be let down!
While the Cove may be the most beautiful (and my fav) because of its views and such, La Jolla Shores is also a great beach if you’re just looking to lay out with the family. There are always small surf lessons, kayaking and other low key activities going on and I feel the waves are usually most gentle here.
Since I don’t really live too North, I never really discovered Carlsbad beaches until recently because my photographer lives up that way and has shown me some of the most beautiful beaches up there which is why Carlsbad has now made it to my list. I honestly think Carlsbad’s beaches must be one of San Diego’s best kept secrets which is probably why I never knew about it earlier. With that being said, there are never that many people there either which is absolutely AMAZING! The beaches are stunning, coastal bluffs for days, and pretty much takes your breath away.
Cardiff is a classic SoCal beach town that also has breathtaking views and well everything is pretty top notch and by that I not only mean the beaches but the community, homes, and businesses. It’s all just pristine. Cardiff is known for it’s world-class surfing such as Swami’s and although I’m not much of a surfer, Swami’s is an absolutely gorgeous spot to remember. To me Cardiff sometimes takes me out of my mindset and reminds me that this is where I live, if that even makes sense. It has that ability to make you just take it all in and appreciate life.
