I know this is an unfortunate time for all of us and well, NONE of us were ever expecting any of it. In fact, many of us probably never thought we’d ever experience anything like this in our lives – but the Coronavirus pandemic is definitely something to be taken incredibly seriously. I do believe we should all do our part and self-quarantine. Remaining inside is a good way to protect yourself and others from the coronavirus and it is an important measure to help “flatten the curve” of daily cases that put pressure on our healthcare system.
With that being said, I know a lot of you are probably already going stir crazy being inside so I wanted to round up a list of things to do to stay positive at home during this time to keep you busy and entertained. Here we go:
1. Complete a puzzle! The more pieces the better! More of a word person? Crossword puzzle! Don’t want to buy one? There are some good apps. Want to get sucked into a personal mind f*ck? Download 1010 – it’s probably ruined my life more than once. Seriously, there are articles online about it and it’s 100% accurate.
2. Download Duolingo, or a similar app, and teach yourself a foreign language.
3. Listen to music. Make a playlist of all your favorite songs and play it every time you start to feel stressed. On another note, do you have a Spotify account you’ve been wanting to get organized for quite some time? I know I do! Nows the time.
4. Meditate. Try lying down with your eyes closed, palms up and while focusing on your breath. There are some apps for this as well.
5. Face masks, moisturizer, oh my! Treat yourself to a 10-step skin care routine you don’t have time for during a normal work week.
6. Write actual letters to family and friends. After that? Write thank-you notes to service people who you remember went out of their way for you. I’ve always been a big believer of gratitude and that it goes a LONG way. Here’s a post on gratitude I wrote a while back as well.
7. Learn calligraphy. YouTube can help.
8. Try on ALL your clothes and determine whether they “spark joy” á la Marie Kondo. This is definitely on my “to do” list during my self quarantine. If you want to make a little extra money you can even start a Poshmark account and list them to sell! If not, donate them to those less fortunate and it will make you feel even better! 🙂
9. Go through all your kitchen, random drawers, supply shelves and repeat the SAME process. Use shoe boxes or random bins you can find throughout your home to categorize items so that everything has a “home.”
10. Learn to cook… or bake!
11. Work out at home! There are SO many options for working out AT HOME! Check out YouTube, Fitness apps, and I have some blog posts here, here and here with some at home options!
12. Go through all your old makeup. (Tip: most liquid products have a small symbol on them noting expirations, usually six months to a year. This includes sunscreen!)
13. Go through your camera roll, pick your favorite pics from the past year and make a photo book or order framed versions online.
14. Watch the films that won Oscars for best picture or better yet, start a list of movies you’ve been wanting to see for a while and start knocking them off.
15. Work on your financial planning, such as exploring whether to refinance your loan or ways to save more money.
16. Make a list of things for which you are grateful.
17. Read a new book from start to finish.
18. Get started on something you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time for – maybe an online course or a new business idea?
19. If you have pets, spend time with them, spoil them, groom them, take them for walks, play with them and teach them new tricks!
20. Take this time finally fix that broken door knob or re-paint that wall. It’s annoying but now is the best time.
21. If you have a garage, tackle it – get organized and make it a space that is just as functional as the inside of your home. It is so nice to have a garage that can also serve a purpose!
I know it’s not the most ideal but honestly guys, we always say we wish we had more time to do “this” and do “that” and well now there’s really no excuse to tackle those projects around the house. This is only a temporary setback and in a few weeks or months this will all be over and we will be back to our normal everyday lives and hopefully have accomplished a lot during this time that we are happy with. If we all do our part now, the sooner we can get back to a sense of normalcy.
Love you guys and stay safe!
