As you guys know I just got back from New York Fashion Week and it was quite the trip. It was so fun and so busy at the same time. I literally don’t think I stopped once the entire seven days. Plus there were lots and lots of outfit changes. It can be a bit exhausting to be honest. Like I said in a previous post, one of my favorite items to wear (and pack) is of course full cotton looks. While in New York, I found myself reaching for my cotton items more often than not. They are way more comfortable than some of my other pieces and let me tell you — comfort is key when on the go like that! It’s honestly no surprise though as we use cotton every single day.
A lot of brands are moving to sustainable GMO (genetically modified) cotton which is practical cotton. The benefit of this is that it can be produced year-in and year out with reduced impact to the environment. I know some people get scared with the word GMO at times but GMO cotton has some significant benefits. GMO cotton has all the same characteristics consumers love about their cotton products being that it’s versatile, durable and easy to care for. Sustainable GMO Cotton is made possible today thanks to improving growing practices, better technology and the willingness of the industry to produce eco-friendly products, largely based on consumer demands. Cotton is one of the world’s most important crops. Its components – lint, liners and seeds – are used in everything from cloth, yarn and paper to plastics, cosmetics, oil and meal.
Here are some benefits of GMO cotton and what it can do for the environment:
-GMO crops can be insect resistant, which allows farmers to better their crops against target pests and reduces the need for pesticide applications (this is SO important in my book). This also helps to boost the populations of beneficial insects.
-Because GMOs can be drought tolerant, they allow crops to maintain better moisture retention, which means more efficient and sustainable use of water.
-GMOs also can help crops resist certain diseases which is another plus in my book.
Today is another full cotton look for you guys to check out. I hope you like it! Living in San Diego, I love wearing a good pair of shorts and a loose top to go with it. Booties are also something I wear ALL the time! I find that they are just super stylish but also much more comfy than heels to wear regularly!
For anyone interested, GMO Answers is an online resource that exists to answer any questions about GMOs – how they are made, why they are made, how they are used in practice and their impact around the world.
