The 90s are officially back in style. That means overalls, plaid, and yes, even crop tops. Don’t you guys remember way back in the day when it seemed like only Britney could do it right? With Summer here now, I’m all about showing a big of midriff whether that be just to the gym or out and about. Trends are always a good thing but when it comes to showing some skin you definitely have to do it tastefully in my opinion.
Here are some of my best tips for how to tastefully show your midriff:
DO wear a cropped top with something high waisted. There is a fine line between showing skin and showing too much skin. That is why high waisted skirts, shorts, and pants are always a good idea. First of all, I am literally obsessed with high waisted anything because they are 10x more comfortable and now they compliment cropped tops perfectly. Ideally, you want to show off an inch or two of skin – no more. That will keep it classy and still let you embrace the trend. So, when you go shopping for a crop top of your very own, don’t forget to look for a high waisted piece to wear with it. You’ll look polished, put together, and fashionable.
DON’T pair a cropped top with low-rise shorts. In my opinion its a total no-no to do this. Showing off that much skin at one time definitely is not flattering or tasteful. It’s way better to not expose too much of your stomach and legs at once.
DO layer. Layering is such a great idea when it comes to showing a bit of midriff. Adding something like a kimono or cardigan can give it that extra something while also keeping you covered up a bit. It’s kind of the best of both worlds. Honestly try it and I guarantee you won’t feel too overexposed since it gives you a bit of modesty and helps you feel better.
DON’T wear something you feel uncomfortable in. If you are wearing something you are not comfortable in, everyone can tell honestly. You’ll spend the day tugging at your top, pants etc wishing you brought along something to change into.
Keep in mind the main thing in fashion is to always be confident in what you are wearing. Whether you’re showing an inch of skin or your entire stomach, make sure you look and feel great in what you’re wearing. After all, that’s what matters most, right?!
