BTW — leave me comments below or on instagram of any other questions you guys have for future reader q&a posts to come! Today is all about Blogging Basics.
I’ll be honest… it was extremely difficult (and still is!). I started by working full time as an esthetician, then coming home and working until midnight on my blog every…single… day. Weekends were dedicated solely to my blog and forget about a social life — that went out the window,… at least that’s how it was at the beginning. There would definitely be those days I would be frustrated, tired and think, what am I doing?! But then, I would quickly remind myself, anything worth having doesn’t come easy and that always kept me going. It’s definitely something you have to sacrifice a bit to get a big reward but let me tell you, if you love it even half as much as I do, it won’t be that hard 🙂 I still get those moments of weakness and get down on myself from time to time, but who doesn’t? Thats what happens when you find something you’re passionate about — you always think you can do better and you don’t mind sacrificing a bit to get where you want and with me that’s exactly what I did.
I started my blog about a year & half ago and decided to do so since my boyfriend was playing professional baseball for the Baltimore Orioles & he was going to be gone about 6 months out of the year during his season. I was done with College, and I had began my career as an Esthetician but I needed something more to occupy my time. He suggested starting a blog since he knew I loved beauty and fashion so much and I was actually a bit reluctant. I was thinking, “Who is even going to read what I have to say?” and finally I figured, what the heck, I’ll just do it. Immediately after starting the blog and writing one post I fell completely in love and I have never looked back.
Gosh, I have had so many amazing experiences working with brands its difficult to pinpoint one of my first thoughts. I can say, when I first started I was pretty much in awe of this whole “blogging” world. It stunned me that this even existed on the internet as I have never even followed one blog before in my life. Collaborating with brands at the beginning especially was just a total dream come true. I couldn’t even believe that one person saw in me something that they liked and was willing to work with me. It’s truly something you just can’t even explain. In the time that I have had my blog I’ve only had a handful or less of few bad experiences with brands which is pretty remarkable seeing how many people I’ve worked with. It’s a blessing working with brands you’ve admired for some time.
I wish I really had a “secret” to share but unfortunately I don’t. What I can tell you is what has worked for me thus far. Whether it be blogging, another hobby or job you have the key is to make sure it is your true passion. I’ve learned that when you find something you truly love, success will follow because you are inspired to do better and to do more. When I began my career as an Accountant after college, I could feel immediately that my life wasn’t fulfilled so I took a chance to do try something else. Once I found what I truly loved, success came quickly after. Consistency is key and never give up.
Like I said, consistency is what works. Blogging was something I enjoyed so much that when I would get home from work I would be excited to hop on my computer and write. Being able to share with my readers and just know people were ACTUALLY reading what I had to say pushed me to even do more. I wanted to create more engaging content and please my readers. I kept my blog consistent. Even when I had those days that I was tired and felt a little down, I kept it going and made sure I created consistent posts because I knew that without that hard work it wouldn’t come easy. I think ultimately my passion started to show through and people started to recognize that.
I tend to get very hard on myself which I find to be the most difficult part. I’ve found my true passion (blogging) and with that means that I want to always perform and do my absolute best. When I don’t see the numbers where I want them to be I get really down on myself which is soo wrong. I always have to remind myself that I am doing the best possible job I can and as with any business there are the slower months. Another difficult part as you start to grow a lot is hearing harsh comments about your physical appearance. People are quick to pinpoint what looks ugly or what they don’t like about you and so on. I respect having a personal opinion but as a blogger people sometimes think you don’t have feelings and tend to say things that they shouldn’t because they think we have no feelings. I posted about this recently on my instagram and it still surprises me how many people continue to get down on others but I always remind myself this too – what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger! Stay strong and be who you are – you are beautiful!
