I know my blog is a place for fashion and beauty but sometimes I think it’s important to get a little personal and let you in on the person that I am so — enter in today’s post =) How many of you have dogs out there?! If you do then you probably know how big a part of your life they actually become and today’s post is dedicated all to my little bestie, Merlot and my Yorkie I lost a couple years ago to Kidney Failure, Vino. — (Yes, I have a thing with Wine)
I have always been a “dog person” so to say. I love ALL dogs and if I had a house big enough it might be full of them so it’s probably safe that I stick to smaller homes for the time being. A few years ago I had moved out for the first time and knew I just had to have a dog to keep me company. I have always had a love for Yorkies so I got my first Yorkie, Vino before even buying myself a bed. Ha! Well, it was the greatest decision I ever made and I was instantly in absolute love. He was my best friend, the sweetest boy and never barked, whined or gave me a hard time. I took him everywhere..literally. My absolute pride & joy. Six to eight months later I started noticing odd signs about Vino that I felt weren’t right (excessive drinking of water, urinating, spitting up and more). I took him to the Vet numerous times but they didn’t seem to feel anything was wrong. Two to three months later, my intuition told me something was wrong and I insisted we do some tests.
After countless visits to the Vet (and thousands of dollars later), we had discovered that he was in Kindey Failure.
He had been born with bad kidneys and at only 1 year old he was already so ill. It was probably one of the saddest times of my life. I devoted the next 3-4 months solely to him. I cooked him meals, hand fed him food & water and cherished every moment praying he wouldn’t leave me. Eventually he stopped eating and drinking and I had to make the difficult decision to let him go. I will never forget that day and re-living it instantly brings tears to my eyes. I vividly remember the day after it happened waking up in the middle of the night crying & screaming. It was a pain I never experienced before. I don’t think you ever do forget your first dog and the bond you create with that dog is different than any other but I learned it’s important for me to move on as well.
It was not an easy decision but that is where Merlot comes in – my current Yorkie. He is 2 now and as healthy as they come! He has a completely different personality but you learn to love in a different way. He is my little companion and I am so attached to him, it’s hard to imagine two years ago he wasn’t here. Now this little one whines and barks but he is so well trained he kind of makes up for it there. Where I have always had issues is between him & food. He is so incredibly difficult and doesn’t eat at all –sometimes for a whole day. I took it upon myself to take part in the Purina One 28 Day Challenge when I heard a little about it. I remember the Breeder had actually been feeding him Purina One when he was a baby so I thought ok, maybe he’ll go for this. Now let’s not get carried away and say he eats constantly BUT for Merlot, it’s an incredible improvement. He loves the little chicken bits in the chicken and rice formula that are mixed in so he tends to eat all of those first. Not only that, but I noticed that his skin & coat looks very healthy & shiny lately as well. I’m so happy that I finally found a food he is actually eating and enjoying.
If you are a dog owner like I am, then you all know our furry friends mean the world to us and seeing them happy and healthy is number one. I’ve learned you don’t know how long you’ll have with them so cherish every moment. If any of you want to take part in the Purina One 28 Day Challenge and take advantage of this $3 off coupon towards a Purina One bag of dog food!
Vino is now pain free running, jumping, chasing cats & enjoying the afterlife.
In loving memory of this little guy <3
