These days with our busy schedules and tight budgets it’s important to have pieces in your closet that you can wear over and over again. Today I wanted to show you all how I change up a dress and wear it for three completely different looks.. plus, the dress is a total steal. A lot of the time we have so many items in our closet that we can transform to different looks, it’s just a matter of thinking outside the box a little. With an easy slip on dress like this, I took it from the beach to girlie to casual day outfit. Here are my tips for taking a dress and creating a few outfits out of it:
Think about different occasions you want to wear the dress and what kind of outfit reminds you of that occasion. For example, for the beach, I knew I wanted to wear something easy like a cover-up and something that’s easy to slip on and off. I knew this dress was just that and I would need absolutely nothing else with it other than a hat since I always like to cover my face at the beach. When picking a hat, I looked at the colors of my dress (white & black). The easiest pick for me was this white panama hate that has a black detailing. I just threw my swimsuit on underneath (don’t worry about the swimsuit color) & that was it! I always say flip flops to beach or pool are a must. You don’t want to ruin some nice shoes and wedges are just a bit much for beach attire.

For this outfit I wanted something comfortable for running errands and just feeling “comfy-cute.” Stripes always give me a bit of a nautical feel so I instantly knew I could pair the dress with red, white & blue. A denim jacket is always my “go to” to throw on over certain outfits and I knew it could go perfectly with the striped dress and add a bit of contrast. Finally to fit with the theme, I picked out these all white (with red & blue detail) chucks to add a more comfy & cute vibe. I honestly can’t tell you how many compliments I got on this outfit as well. Also, when going for stripes, my tip is to always stick with thinner stripes rather than thicker ones.

Another way I love to change up a dress that is actually super easy but a lot of people forget is to add a top over a dress and tie it to the side. Every time I do this people are always asking me about it. Basically I would go with a shade that compliments the dress – for example, with this black and white dress a black top would have been better than a white top because a white would have been more see-through so I went with a black one, took a clear elastic and tied it off to the side. If the shirt is long enough you could even just tie it on its own!
Hope you guys enjoy the looks & don’t forget to experiment a little with your pieces too!
