I don’t normally do this — review something I don’t believe in, which is why today’s review is going to be a little different. As a blogger it is my duty to be honest with my readers and express my true feelings and experiences. Today I had something different, unusual and overall just completely unprofessional happen and I want to share that experience with all of you.
I was recently contacted by ELLA MOSS, a clothing company, to collaborate on a sponsorship between their brand and my blog. I was really excited to show off what I thought was some cute clothing and an amazing brand but… boy was I wrong. ELLA MOSS had agreed upon all the terms prior to accepting the sponsorship. I had laid it out quite clear. They had mentioned they definitely wanted to move forward and wanted to get the post up as soon as possible asking me continuously when I will be able to get the post up. They even wanted to hold a giveaway for all you guys… that obviously didn’t happen.
As many of you know, I was in New York last week. I was in contact with the brand and because they had asked for the post to be up quick I got back home and although I was exhausted worked my butt off to get what they wanted in time. I set a date for (today) as agreed upon with the brand. I worked countless hours taking photos, editing, preparing the post, linking and prepping the giveaway. Two days prior to the post, the brand contacted me to lower my sponsorship after agreeing to all the terms previously. After explaining that this was the agreed upon sponsorship the brand said they “understood” and would still like to move forward asking me for all these requirements yet I stayed patient with the brand and agreed to do everything I could for them. I stayed up until the wee hours of the night finishing the post one day prior to the launch of the post. Less than 12 hours before the post was to go live (yesterday evening) I received an e-mail that they would not like to go through with the post. Not only that, but they asked for me to send back all the clothing and they would not even provide me with a return shipping label. So basically, they not only want me to spend my own time but also my own money on something that was to benefit them in the first place!
Can you believe it?
I spent countless hours creating not one but three outfit posts for the brand under the agreed upon terms only to find less than 12 hours before the post was to launch that they want to scratch the whole thing. As if my time meant nothing to them. Time that I would have gladly spent working with a true professional brand who was generous enough to comprehend how valuable my time is. My readers mean the world to me and as a blogger it was important to show you all what true unprofessionalism is. I am honored to have you all read my blog everyday and never take it for granted so it’s truly made me appreciate all the kind, generous and thoughtful people out there who support and understand what I do everyday.
If any of you are ever looking to buy from or work with ELLA MOSS in the future I sincerely hope you all think twice as the people behind the brand clearly don’t care for your time.. and perhaps only your money.
** UPDATE 6/21/14: After this blog post was published, I was contacted by the Ella Moss team who apologized for the way this sponsorship was handled. They mailed me the compensation for my time and allowed me to keep all the clothing. I appreciate them acknowledging this and making things right. It was the right thing to do.
