As the season change starts to emerge, our skin is usually faced with some challenges. Temperature/weather changes can take a very big toll on our skin unless we adapt to them. If winter season proves to be hard on your skin (like it is for me), the new season might be your chance to get it back on track! Good thing is seems is that skin seems to do much better in warmer months (or so it seems to be with me). I feel like my skin is subjected to fewer problems like over dryness during the Spring/Summer time.
I’m going to sound like a broken record here but so be it. Moisturizing is by far the most important thing we can do. Even though moisturizing regularly is just as important during spring as it is during winter, it is usually smarter to switch to a slightly lighter moisturizer. During winter months I use Dr. Grandel Supermoist (available here) which is a very rich & thick moisturizer but does a great job protecting my skin during the cold winter months however, during Spring/Summer time temperatures go up and a heavy moisturizer like that can feel a little greasy. My favorite to use is Dr. Grandel Azulene and Algotherm Repair Cream (both available here). As far as if you are oily, it is very imporant that you invest in a matifying type of moisturizer like the Algotherm Matifiant (at Martine’s Skin Care).
Sunscreen remains an absolute must during the warmer months, so looking
for a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15-20 is recommendable. Think about any potential problems you might face during the warm season. If sunscreen makes you break out go for a moisturizer without it & only add a good sunscreen that wont clog your pores on top. I personally do not like moisturizers that are mixed with sunscreen so I always go for an added sunscreen to wear on top. My favorite is the Anesi UVA/UVB Protection (Martine’s Skin Care). Oh and don’t forget experiment with different foundation tones!! I am much lighter during the winter months and wear a lighter tone of foundation. Nothing worse than having a mismatched foundation color!
Like I’ve said before, I’m a big believer in exfoliation. Skin tends to become oilier when
temperatures rise, so switching to an exfoliating cleanser or adding a
glycolic acid-based toner will help keep skin healthy and clear. Love the ones we sell which are the Glyco Cleanser or Toner available at Martine’s Skin Care. Choose a gentle exfoliator that will not irritate the skin and make sure not to over do it. Remember everything in moderation! Another great product is the Algotherm Gommage Exfoliating Gel. This is an enzyme exfoliate which transform into oil offering a very gentle exfoliation. It is free from abrasive particles and glides over the skin to rid it of impurities by using natural enzymes. Papaya extract eliminates dead cells to improve complexion. This is Paraben free & fantastic for sensitive skin.
Don’t forget everyone needs an eye
cream because the eyelid is the thinnest skin anywhere on your body.
Plus, there aren’t as many oil glands around the eyes which can result
in wrinkles — even for women in their 20s. For dark circles and
puffiness, look for gel formulas with caffeine to constrict blood
vessels and green tea which is a natural anti-inflammatory. My favorite- Dr. Grandel Contour Balm.
Last but not least, pay attention to diet & exercise and try to make better choices because it can impact the way your skin looks.
During the winter we (and I know I do) indulge in so many sweets, treats & comfort foods so it is time to get back on track! Make sure to include lots of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water & exercise regularly to help the way your skin looks from within. I mean Spring means we’re just that much closer to Summer which means we must be bikini bod ready anyways right? I’m just trying to get you that head start to feeling good 😉
