We all want it. Channel our inner Giselle to that Supermodel Summer Beach Bod. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as we all wish it were. I had someone ask me to do a post on how I stay in shape so your wish is my command!
Like I said before, I used to always want to be stick thin but as I got older I started admiring a womanly figure. Now I love a woman with curves & a gorgeous figure.
I’m really not one to stress too much about what I’m eating I just am conscious about what I put into my body. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely still a “girl” in that I’m always saying I could afford to lose a few pounds but I think that’s just in our nature. I usually eat pretty healthy, with the occasional “cheat” days (or so that’s what my boyfriend calls it). Hey, it makes me feel better 😉 I still have my weaknesses though: bread, cheese, wine and chocolate. I just try not to overdue it. On the other hand, if I am craving it, I allow myself it! I mean, what kind of life is it when you’re always worrying & not enjoying the amazing things this world has to offer?!
I usually eat whole wheat and organics and try to cook myself meals regularly. Trader Joe’s is my best friend. Whole Foods from time to time, but I find Trader Joe’s is much more affordable for me & they have mostly everything I’m looking for. I used to buy a lot of pre-packaged meals and the difference when you actually take the time to cook is unbelievable! You find you’re full quicker, feel better & it is definitely much healthier. Since I work so much during the week I try to cook larger portions on weekends, put in tupperware & save the rest for my week.
I am obsessed with my Crock Pot!!! I make EVERYTHING in the Crock Pot from chicken to stews, to spaghetti, lasagna, even stuffed bell peppers. It’s one of the best creations ever. Throw it in in the morning & Voila! In the evening, you have a 5 star home cooked meal. My favorite one?? Here.
As far as drinks go, I usually only have water in my house. I occasionally have little treats like my personal favorite, Orangina or Iced Tea for when I’m craving something else. There are also the days when I have to admit I just crave a soda, but it’s very rare. Again, when I crave it, I have it. I never actually buy a case of it but here & there I allow myself it! You have to or else you go on craving & indulge in something worse after! As far as alcohol goes, I rarely drink much of it and if I do it’s usually just a glass of wine. I think that saves me a lot. I’m always surprised when I hear how much people drink & don’t even think about what they are putting into their body! Food for thought:
With all that being said I have to say what I found that worked wonders
for me in terms of physical changes in my body: Pilates. I used to work out at the gym quite frequently but
never saw too much of a change in my body. In fact, I started feeling
like I was getting a little too “bulky” for my petite figure, that’s
when I heard about Pilates and decided to give it a try. And not just
mat Pilates. I wanted the real deal — the machines (in my case, the
reformer). Every woman I had ever come across who did Pilates had the
most amazing figures: long, lean & carry themselves like ballerinas.
Long story short, after my first session I was hooked.
Pilates is challenging in terms of working your muscles and paying attention to how every inch of your body is aligned. You leave with your head higher, shoulders back and much more away of how engaged & strong your core is. You work every part of your body, muscles you never thought existed and focus a lot on abdomen, lower back, hips & buttocks. One of the best things about the Pilates Reformer is its versatility. Exercises are done lying down, sitting up, standing, pulling straps, pushing the footbar, upside down, sideways you name it! In other words, the reformer can train any part of your body in so many different ways with just this one piece of equipment.
Trust me, I know there are those women who are blessed & can eat junk food, not work out & have a fabulous six pack with the least amount of effort. But I tell you, my body is not that. I also do not have the time to be at the Gym or Pilates studio 5 times a week. I work wayyy too much for that & I’d rather spend a few lazy nights off curled up on the couch watching reruns of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills 😉 With that being said, I have now been doing Pilates for over a year and a half. The photo
above was from last summer after only a few months of doing Pilates! Usually, I try to get to the studio about twice a week at about 1 hour each session. It truly has worked wonders on me and unlike the gym I actually really enjoy going! As far as long term results, I have noticed a huge improvement in my overall strength, flexibility, coordination & balance. As far as physical results I’ve seen huge results in my core muscles, back, butt & thighs. Love Pilates & encourage everyone to get into it! You’ll be thanking me!!
What do you find works for you?? Any suggestions?
