Concealer can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. It is the one staple in a woman’s beauty routine that can dramatically change your appearance. Used correctly, concealer can brighten a tired face, it can cover up blemishes and it can totally conceal under-eye circles which I have all too often.
What color do I need?
A basic rule of thumb is to choose a concealer that’s yellow-based and a shade or two lighter than your skin tone. Keep in mind however that some months your skin may be darker or lighter. I have several types and shades of concealers that I use for summer and winter months and subtle changes to my skin so just make sure you factor this in.
What is the difference between Concealer and Foundation?
Concealers are heavier and more pigmented. They are intended to cover up blemishes, discoloration, and redness. Foundations are lighter and mostly even out the skin tone.
When applied correctly, concealer can
successfully cover large pores, reduce eye bags and/or hide acne and
pimples. Just be careful, the wrong color concealer could draw attention to the area that it is covering, rather than hide it which no one wants.
I always use a concealer brush to apply concealer to the under-eye area.
A brush will give you fuller coverage and allow you to conceal in the
tiny inner corner of the eyes. I apply a line of concealer underneath my
lashes and inner corners of my eyes and use a concealer brush to blend
in. Try not to rub too hard as the skin around your eye is very
delicate. If I have any blemishes or scars I need to cover up I apply a
small dab around the area and blend. Then, apply foundation & makeup
Here are my absolute favorite concealers that I cannot live without.
1. This MAC concealer is one of my favorites. I use it on a daily basis and swear by it! Covers my dark circles & any blemishes so well. I use NC30.
2. This Sephora Concealer is another great one that I use. The color I have slightly darker than the MAC concealer so I use this when I have a more tan complexion.
